Choosing a coffee grinder is difficult. There are many brands and models, and not every grinder is suitable for every brewing method. In this guide, we compare ten electric coffee grinders from our range by use (filter coffee, espresso, or both), burr type, and price range. This makes it easier to see which grinder to consider.
How do you make your coffee?
Don't start with the brand, but with how you make your coffee. That's why we've divided the ten grinders into three groups. Prices are from October 2026. You can find the current price on the product page.
- Filter: for pour-over, AeroPress, and French press (two grinders).
- Espresso: for grinding directly into your portafilter (five grinders).
- Both: one grinder for espresso and filter coffee (three grinders).

Which grinder suits which needs?
- Filter only: Fellow Ode Brew Gen 2 (64 mm flat burrs, 31 settings, single dose).
- Lowest price for espresso: Lelit Fred PL043MMI.
- Espresso and filter in one grinder: Fellow Opus Gen 2, Eureka Mignon Specialita and Timemore Sculptor 064S. All three are confirmed suitable for both.
- Large quantities of coffee: Macap MI40 Touch Pro (1.2 kg bean hopper, commercial grinder).
Flat or conical?
This refers to the shape of the burrs. In this selection, the Fellow Opus Gen 2 and Lelit Fred have conical burrs. The Hario Compact N has a stainless steel burr; its shape is not specified. The other seven grinders have flat burrs. Shape doesn't tell you everything about quality. The burr diameter, adjustment and grinder construction also matter.
Stepless or stepped?
With a stepless adjustment, you can fine-tune the grind infinitely. Thatโs useful for espresso, where small differences change the extraction time. The Fellow Ode Brew Gen 2 has 31 fixed settings, and the Hario Compact N has 39.
