Who is behind Boo!, and how did Boo! come into being?
We are Benoit (33) and Benjamin (29). We have both been working in coffee for about four years. Benoit started his coffee journey in Australia, continued it in Canada and finally ended up in Brussels. That's where he met Benjamin, when they worked together in a coffee bar. After his graphic design studies, Benjamin immediately started in coffee, in a small coffee bar. He then moved to Brussels, where he worked as a barista, manager and finally as a roaster.
After a joint trip to World of Coffee 2023 in Athens, the idea arose to start something together. And so Boo! was born.
How would you describe Boo!’s vision on coffee in a few words?
Our vision revolves aroundModern CoffeeFor us, this means not only a strong, contemporary visual identity, but also a brand with clear core values: inclusivity, transparency and sustainable relationships with producers and partners.
We pride ourselves on our sourcing program, where each coffee fits into a specific category. It is not the cupping score that determines the value, but the purpose and experience the coffee provides.
For us it is important that everyone can find a coffee that they like - even if you don't like acidity. That is why we also roast everything as omni-roast, so that everyone can make the coffee in the way they prefer.
Is there a coffee country that you feel a special connection with?
Benoit:You never forget your first visit to a country of origin. Two years ago I traveled to Ethiopia, specifically for the coffee. Seeing the farms, the work of the farmers – that changes your view of coffee completely.
Benjamin:I haven't been to the origin myself, but Colombia always has a special place. The variety of flavors you find there is incredible. It's always a new discovery.
What is your favorite brewing method – and why that one?
Benoit:The Chemex remains my favorite. The design, the taste of the coffee, the color in the light... and you can make a nice amount with it.
Benjamin:I've tried many brewers but always come back to the V60. Simple, efficient, and reminds me of my first pour-over years ago. You can't really go wrong with that.
